Strava

The Big Adventure

A unique personalised film for every Strava athlete

Strava is the social network for athletes - a website and mobile app that helps runners and cyclists track their activities and connect with each other. In 2015 alone members shared over 168 million activities.

We wanted to celebrate this, by enabling each member to share their achievements with friends. We used our RITA platform to generate a bespoke animated film for each of Strava’s millions of runners and cyclists.

Every film was built around individual annual performance stats such as Total distances, elevation gains, average workout and personal bests. It also included social community data, like Popular photos, appearances from training buddies, as well as kudos and other Strava achievements.

The films matched each athlete’s gender, preferred language, and whether they identify as a runner or cyclist, or both. To maximise each athlete's experience, the campaign went live on the last day of 2015.

Within seconds, the user was provided with their film that could be instantly shared on social media or downloaded for Instagram.

In just over a week, more than 700,000 unique films were created - over three times the success of last years campaign. These videos then started to pop up all across the web, on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, sparking conversation with users all around the world.
